Summary

FUCKSAKES: Check on your friends for fucksakesFUCKSAKES is an intimate and thought-provoking short film that delves into the emotional and psychological complexities of living with bipolar disorder. With a focus on the themes of visibility and invisibility, the film explores the contrasting inner worlds of manic highs and crushing lows. The film features a single male protagonist, portrayed in solitude, highlighting the isolation and intense internal conflict of those who grapple with bipolar disorder. The narrative is designed to be silent and subtle, using minimal dialogue and relying heavily on evocative visuals and metaphors to convey the protagonist's emotional journey. Through stark, fragmented imagery and ambient sound design, FUCKSAKES sheds light on the duality of the disorder—how it often goes unseen, even by those closest to the sufferer—and the unseen weight of the constant emotional push and pull. It’s a raw, unfiltered look into the silence of mental health struggles, offering a deeply personal perspective on a condition that remains largely invisible in society.

The Vision

It takes a village

FUCKSAKES is an ambitious project that begins with four short films exploring the visibility and invisibility of mental health experiences. These films will lay the foundation for a larger community-based platform where creative challenges invite the public to submit their own short films, documentaries, and art projects focused on mental health themes. The platform will empower people to create without financial or technical restrictions, offering editing support and resources for those lacking equipment. In the future, we will provide funding for winning submissions, fostering a sustainable creative community. Our fourth film will be a collaborative effort that brings together sound designers, graphic artists, and other creatives from the community, highlighting the power of collective creativity before we open the platform to public submissions. With this project, we aim to create a hub for mental health expression, combining film, music, and art to foster a space for individuals to share their stories and experiences with the world.
